Rae Waters represents the Democrats, Republicans, and Independents of District 20, which includes Ahwatukee, South Tempe, and West Chandler. She also serves on the Kyrene Elementary School District Governing Board, first elected to that position in 1998, where she has served three terms as president.

 

Rae was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey; she has lived in Arizona for 42 years and graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology. She has lived in Ahwatukee for 28 years with Jim, her husband of 30 years, who works as an engineer in Chandler. They have two children: a son at NAU and a daughter at Mountain Pointe High School.

 

She is a past president of the Arizona School Boards Association, which represents more than 1,200 school board members and more than 1 million Arizona children, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for educational research firm WestEd.
