FLOOR AMENDMENT EXPLANATION

 

The Burges Floor Amendment does the following:

 

1)      Changes the distance for the safe and secure location that an excused elected official must be transported to by a Department of Public Safety (DPS) protective detail from at least 25 miles away from the seat of government to at least 20 miles away from the seat of government.

 

2)      Specifies that if the excused elected official is unable to attend the event, the next elected official in the rotation shall be transported by the protective detail  to a safe and secure location and shall remain there for the duration of the event.

 

3)      Strikes language pertaining to DPS security and protection currently provided to the Governor and the Governor’s family being extended to the Secretary of State, the Attorney General and the State Treasurer to address cost concerns expressed by DPS.
