HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AMENDMENTS TO H.B. 2301

Strike everything after the enacting clause and insert:

"Section 1.  Title 16, chapter 3, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding article 5.1, to read:

ARTICLE 5.1.  NOMINATION BY POLITICAL PARTY CAUCUS

START_STATUTE16-349.  Partisan political offices; nomination; party caucus

Notwithstanding any other law:

1.  A political party may name the candidates who are to appear on the primary election ballot for all state, county and city or town partisan political offices by way of a political party caucus.  The political party caucus prescribed by this section shall be used in place of filing a nominating paper and a partisan nominating petition as prescribed by sections 16‑311 amd 16‑314.

2.  A political party shall ESTABLISH its own PROCEDURES for nominating a candidate at that political party's caucus and each party's candidates from that party's political party caucus shall appear on the primary election ballot as the candidate for that party.

3.  Candidates for nonpartisan political offices shall be determined as otherwise PROVIDED by law." END_STATUTE
