AN ACT
amending title 41, chapter 12, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 41-1724; making appropriations; relating to the department of public safety.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Title 41, chapter 12, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-1724, to read:
41-1724. Felony and violent fugitive task force; duties
A. The director shall establish a multijurisdictional felony and violent fugitive task force in the gang and immigration intelligence team enforcement mission for the purpose of identifying and arresting individuals with outstanding felony warrants.
B. The task force shall:
1. Collaborate with local, county, state, tribal and federal agencies to effectively coordinate its efforts.
2. Maximize the use of the intelligence resources of all law enforcement agencies.
3. Deploy detectives and other law enforcement personnel to address any backlog in unserved felony warrants. The task force shall give felony warrants involving gang related activities and undocumented aliens priority.
4. Develop a reporting mechanism for unserved felony warrants that enhances existing local systems.
5. On request of the director, provide a statistical report that demonstrates the results of the task force.
Sec. 2. Allocation of appropriated monies; felony and violent fugitive task force
Notwithstanding any other law, of the $10,000,000 appropriated by Laws 2008, chapter 285, section 14 to the department of public safety for the multijurisdictional task force known as the gang and immigration intelligence team enforcement mission, the following amounts are allocated for the following purposes:
1. $1,600,000 of the $10,000,000 is allocated to the felony and violent fugitive task force established by this act.
2. $1,600,000 of the $10,000,000 is allocated to the sheriff's office of a county with a population of more than two million persons for enforcing human smuggling laws and immigration enforcement. The sheriff may contract with the county attorney for human smuggling and immigration enforcement cases.
