Chairman Burns called the meeting to order at 1:33 p.m., and attendance was noted.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

Senator Burns moved the minutes of March 20, 2007 be approved. 

Without objection, the minutes were approved as distributed.

 

CONSIDERATION OF BILLS

 

HB 2228 - vehicle license tax; hybrid vehicles (now: highway expansion fund; capital projects) – HELD

 

Senator Burns announced that HB 2228 would be HELD.

 

HB 2779 - fair and legal employment act – HELD

 

Senator Burns announced that HB 2779 would be HELD.

 

HB 2204 - appropriation; character education office (now: character education; matching grant; transfer) – DO PASS

 

Sabrina Vasquez, Education K-12 and Higher Education Committee Intern, explained HB 2204.

 

Tammy Linn, Arizona Department of Education, testified in support of HB 2204.

 

Senator Burns announced the individuals who registered their position on the bills (Attachment A).

 

Senator Allen moved HB 2204 be returned with a DO PASS recommendation.  The motion CARRIED with a roll call vote of 10-0-1 (Attachment 1).

 

HB 2407 - centennial; administrative costs; appropriation – DO PASS

 

John Dennis, Appropriations Committee Intern, explained HB 2407.

 

John Driggs, Arizona Historical Advisory Commission, testified in support of HB 2407.

 

Senator Burns announced the individuals who registered their position on the bills (Attachment A).

 

Senator Johnson moved HB 2407 be returned with a DO PASS recommendation.  The motion CARRIED with a roll call vote of 10-0-1 (Attachment 2).
