Arizona Legislative Legal

Internship Program

Spring Semester

The Arizona Legislative Legal Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to second and third year students from ASU and UofA law schools and the Phoenix School of Law to learn about state government, current legal issues and the legislative process. The program affords participants intensive research and writing opportunities.

Positions are available in both the Senate and the House of Representatives with the non-partisan Rules Committee legal staff and the Democrat legal staff, and with the Legislative Council, the Legislature’s non-partisan bill drafting and research agency.

The legislative session begins on the second Monday in January. Each UofA and ASU legal intern selected receives a spring semester partial tuition waiver and a $4,200 stipend distributed as bi-weekly paychecks. UofA law students moving from outside Maricopa County who document need will be eligible for up to $500 for approved relocation expenses. UofA and ASU law schools award up to 6 pass/fail credits for completion of up to 360 hours of work at the Legislature, at 20 hours each week for 18 weeks. Phoenix School of Law awards 3 pass/fail credits for the completion of 180 hours of work at the Legislature, at 10 hours each week for 15 weeks. UofA law students may register for classes at the ASU college of law during the spring semester.

Interviews will be held in late October or early November at the Capitol. Interviews are conducted by a panel of legislative attorneys and last approximately 20 minutes. Those selected to participate will be notified within one week of the date of the interviews.
