Chairman Adams called the meeting to order at 12:39 p.m. and attendance was noted.

 

Adoption of Ballot Analyses pursuant to Laws 2010, Sixth Special Session, Chapter 1

(SCR 1001 – temporary sales tax; repeal)

 

Senator Burns moved the 15-line draft Ballot Anaysis by Legislative Council to Proposition 100, SCR 1001 (Attachment A) be adopted.

                                                                                   

Mike Braun, Executive Director, Arizona Legislative Council, reviewed the statutory standards and the purpose of the ballot analysis process.

 

Senator Verschoor moved the following verbal amendment to the Ballot Analysis for Proposition 100:

 

Line 5, after “dollar” insert “(a 17.8% tax increase)”.

 

Mr, Braun answered questions posed by the Council members.

 

Senator Verschoor further explained his verbal amendment.

 

Joe Kanefield, General Counsel, Office of the Governor, testified against the Verschoor verbal amendment.

 

The Verschoor proposed verbal amendment FAILED by a voice vote.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Braun answered questions posed by the Council members.

 

The motion to ADOPT the draft 15-line Legislative Council Ballot Analysis for Proposition 100 (SCR 1001, Laws 2010, Sixth Special Session, Chapter 1) CARRIED by a roll call vote of 14-0-0 (Attachment 1).

 

Senator Verschoor explained his vote.

 

Mr. Braun answered questions posed by the Council members.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 12:53 p.m.
