Chairman Melvin called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. and attendance was noted.

 

Senator Melvin discussed the monthly report on Joint Border Security as prepared by the Committee Staff (Attachment A).

 

Committee Staff Summary of Previous Meetings

 

Joe DeMenna, House Research Analyst, distributed a copy of his presentation on the findings of the Committee (Attachment B) and summarized the information the Committee covered during the 2011 interim period.

 

Discussion and Adoption of Committee Report

 

The Committee discussed the monthly report.

 

Representative Jones moved that the Joint Border Security Advisory Committee ADOPT the monthly report.  The motion CARRIED by voice vote.

PRESENTATIONS

 

Overview of the National Guard

 

Major General Hugo Salazar, Adjutant General, Arizona National Guard, distributed "Department of Emergency and Military Affairs" (Attachment C), gave an overview of the Department of Emergency and Military Affairs and answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

Overview of Border Fence Projects

 

Chris Rogers, Manager of Construction, Arizona Region, Granite Construction, introduced Mike Tedusko and Dave Richards, employees of Granite Construction.  He gave an overview of the Border Security Contracts and answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

Dave Richards distributed "Overview of Border Fence Projects" (Attachment D), gave an overview of Granite Construction and answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

Mike Tedusko answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

Update on the Arizona Border Fence Donation Website

 

Senator Steve Smith gave an overview of the status of the Arizona Border Fence Donation Website and the level of donations.

 

Harris Deitch, representing himself, discussed plans for the border fence and his intention to make a future presentation to the Committee.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
