Minutes of the Meeting

CoChairman Crandell called the meeting to order at 10:10 a.m. and a quorum was present.

 

Draft Recommendations for Performance Outcomes

 

Representative Crandell distributed a draft on possible performance outcomes (Attachment A) and discussed the following subjects:

 

·         Core Academic Subjects

·         21st Century Skills

·         Learning and Innovation Skills

·         Communication and Collaboration

·         Information, Media and Technology Skills

·         Life and Career Skills

 

Susan Carlson distributed "Governor's Office of Education Innovation" (Attachment B) and discussed the status of the Arizona Improvement Plan.

 

 

Current Funding Models for K-12 Education/Current Funding Sources for K-12 Education

 

Steve Schimpp, Joint Legislative Budget Committee Staff, distributed "Overview of Basic State Aid; K-12 Funding Sources" (Attachment C) and explained the current education funding formulas and sources.

 

Options for New Funding Models / New Designated Funding Sources

 

The Committee discussed various funding models and the possibility of putting education under a designated funding source instead of the General Fund.

 

Public Testimony

 

Janell Sterner, Teacher, representing herself, explained her situation to the members and discussed some difficulties of being a teacher.

 

Don Ascoli, Chairman, Gila County Republican Party, representing himself, suggested using a pilot program first to test on a smaller scale.

 

Deana Ascoli, representing herself, discussed putting finances more toward teachers instead of buildings.

 

The Committee agreed to hold the next meeting on October 28.

 

Attached is a list noting the individuals who registered their position on the items on the agenda (Attachment D).

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 12:32 p.m.
