Cochairman Verschoor called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. and attendance was noted.

 

Approval of Minutes

 

Senator Verschoor moved the minutes of February 22, 2008, be approved. Without objection, the minutes were approved as distributed.

 

Overview of School Safety Funding / 2008 Legislative Changes

 

Dawn Wallace, Senate Education Research Analyst, provided an overview of the school safety funding and all legislative changes made in 2008.

 

Preliminary Fiscal Year 2009 Funding Summary

 

Jean Ajamie, Arizona Department of Education, gave a summary of the preliminary fiscal year 2009 funding and answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

 

 

Consideration of Preliminary Fiscal Year 2009 Awards

 

Jean Ajamie, Arizona Department of Education, discussed potential candidates for Fiscal Year 2009 Awards and answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

Dawn Wallace, Senate Education Research Analyst, suggested a motion be made.

 

Alice Bustillo moved the School Safety Oversight Committee approve the Arizona Department of Education’s preliminary Fiscal Year 2009 School Safety Program Application Award recommendations. The motion CARRIED by voice vote.

 

Consideration of Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education Contract

 

Jeffrey Schrade, Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education, gave testimony representing the foundation and answered questions posed by the Committee.

 

Andy Swann moved the School Safety Oversight Committee approve the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education Contract. The motion CARRIED by voice vote.

 

Consideration of Modifications to Appeals Procedures

 

Jean Ajamie, Arizona Department of Education, presented possible modifications to be made to the appeals procedure.

 

Alice Bustillo moved the School Safety Oversight Committee approve the Arizona Department of Education recommendations for modifications to the appeals procedures for the School Safety Program. The motion CARRIED by voice vote.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
