Chairman Tobin called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. and attendance was noted.
Adoption of State Capitol Grounds Regulations
Michael Braun, Executive Director, Legislative Council, distributed "State Capitol Grounds Regulations" (Attachment A) and gave a brief overview of the responsibilities of Legislative Council regarding the State Capitol grounds. Mr. Braun explained the proposed regulations and procedures for the State Capitol grounds and answered questions posed by the Committee.
Senator Pierce moved the Legislative Council ADOPT the State Capitol Grounds Regulations. Senator Biggs seconded the motion.
Kathryn Kobor, representing herself, discussed her experiences with protesting at the Capitol.
Representative Tobin called for a roll call vote on the motion by Senator Pierce. The motion CARRIED with a roll call vote of 8-3-3 (Attachment 1).
Senator Schapira and Representatives Campbell, Hale, Lesko and Tobin explained their votes.
Appointment of Executive Director
Michael Braun, Executive Director, Legislative Council, explained the statutory requirement for the appointment of the Executive Director of Legislative Council for the Fiftieth Legislature,
Senator Pierce moved to APPOINT Michael Braun as Executive Director of Legislative Council. Senator Biggs seconded the motion. The motion CARRIED with a roll call vote of 10-0-4 (Attachment 2).
Brief Update Regarding Preliminary Capitol Renovation Plan
John Driggs, former Phoenix Mayor, distributed "Restoration Master Plan for the Arizona State Capitol" (Attachment B) and stated that construction should start before the end of the current legislative session.
Attached is a list noting the individuals who registered their position on the presentations (Attachment C).
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:08 p.m.
