Minutes of Interim Meeting
Tuesday, November 30, 2010
House Hearing Room 4 -- 11:00 a.m.
Co-Chairman Hendrix called the meeting to order at 11:11 a.m. and attendance was noted by the secretary.

Co-Chairman Hendrix welcomed everyone to the meeting and stated that the reviews would be conducted in the following order:
Department of Housing
Co-Chairman Hendrix stated that, without objection, the presentation of the report of the Auditor General (Attachment 1) would be waived.
Michael Trailor, Director, Arizona Department of Housing, addressed the Members to inform them that the findings of the Auditor General’s report showed improvement in the Department’s on-site practices but that the Department’s policies have not followed those improvements. Director Trailor stated that those policies have been changed to reflect what is being done in the field (Attachment 2).
Co-Chairman Hendrix announced the names of those who signed up in support of continuation but did not speak:
Valerie Iverson, Executive Director, Arizona Housing Alliance
Co-Chairman Leff moved that the Senate Commerce and Economic Development and House Commerce Committee of Reference recommend to the full Legislature that the Department of Housing be continued for ten years. The motion carried by a roll call vote of 6-0-0-4 (Attachment 3).
Office of Tourism
Sherry Henry, Director, Office
of Tourism, addressed the Committee to state that the Office of Tourism
has, since 1975, been focused on generating revenue and creating jobs for the
State of Arizona. She stated that she is confident that the Office will always
be part of the economic solution to whatever problems face the state. The mission
of the Office is to enhance the state’s economy and quality of life for all
Arizonans by expanding travel activity and increasing related revenues through
tourism promotion development for all fifteen counties
(Attachments 4, 5, and 6).
Co-Chairman Hendrix announced the names of those who signed up in support of continuation but did not speak:
Stuart Goodman, AAA Arizona
Co-Chairman Leff moved that the Senate Commerce and Economic Development and House Commerce Committee of Reference recommend to the full Legislature that the Office of Tourism be continued for ten years. The motion carried by a roll call vote of 5-1-0-4 (Attachment 7).
Without objection, the meeting adjourned at 11:22 a.m.
