Representative Chabin was elected in his own right in 2008 and again in 2010.

The Representative is the ranking Democrat Member of the House Committees on Ways & Means and Higher Education, Innovation & Reform. He also serves on the House Committee on Judiciary. His areas of particular legislative interest include: tax law, education and behavioral health funding.

Representative Chabin graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and prior to his service in the State Legislature served two terms on the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, seven years on the Coconino County Planning and Zoning Commission and three years on the Tuba City Public School Board. In addition, he has served as a member of numerous youth, church and community boards and organizations; he was a long-time little league coach and referee.

Representative Chabin is a widower to the late Delia Fernandez Chabin, who was born in Douglas, Arizona and taught for 20 years at Moenkopi Day School in Tuba City. In addition to raising one son, Rodrigo Chabin—a Phoenix resident, the couple served as foster parents for a six year period.
