Born in Tucson and moving to Tempe to attend ASU, Andrew Sherwood is now a State Senator for his Alma Matter and the surrounding area.

During the his first term, Andrew served on the Appropriations Committee, the Technology & Infrastructure Committee, and was appointed by the governor to serve on the Joint Committee for Capitol Review, where he served alongside the Majority Leader, the Minority Leader, and the Chairman of Appropriations for both the House and Senate.

In his second term, Andrew was placed back on Appropriations, the Joint Committee for Capitol Review, and picked up Ways & Means- as the Ranking Member. After session Andrew was appointed to the State Senate where he now serves on Transportation, State Debt & Budget Reform, and Federalism, Mandates & Fiscal Responsibility.

Arizona Tech Council has said: "Andrew Sherwood brings a refreshing level of energy to the legislative process at the Arizona Capitol. He has a heightened capacity to absorb complex information and thoughtfully contemplates every vote he casts."

Besides his work in the legislature, his involvement in our community includes:
  • Helping sponsor an "Honor Flight" for Arizona’s WWII veterans to see their memorial in Washington, D.C. - at no cost to them.
  • Working with a "We the People" high school class, that would go on to win their national championship.
  • Working with NASA to bring American Astronauts to Arizona for teaching, guest lectures at ASU, and the promotion of the sciences through "Destination Space Station".
Various colleagues, friends and peers have bestowed upon Andrew their formal recognition, including awards like:
  • "Champion" by the League of Cities and Towns.
  • A "Leadership" award from Arizona State University.
  • "Art Hero" by the Child’s Playhouse.
  • And was once named a statewide Democratic Role Model, by Political Writer Stephen Lemons.
Andrew can usually be found in the middle of the political action, in places like: The Senate Bill 1062 Protest Rally, the Appropriations Committee during the budget bills and in most major floor fights. He also makes guest appearances on local TV shows like: Sunday Square-Off, and Politics Unplugged and Horizon. And has had over two-dozen editorials published about politics and local leadership. In his personal life, Andrew is a boxer, he was a rock climber, and his wife is a rocket scientist at NASA in the Johnson Space Center and Lockheed Martin.
