Senator Dean Martin is a small-business owner and entrepreneur who represents North Phoenix. He is the Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, responsible for legislation related to taxes, retirement, insurance and financial issues. He also serves on the Senate Appropriations and Commerce Committees.

He and his wife of eight years, Kerry, are both graduates of Arizona State University, where they met. Sen. Martin earned the first degree in Small Business Management / Entrepreneurship from ASU.

Sen. Martin has a strong record of fighting for victims’ rights, having authored legislation that prohibits sex offenders from living near schools, closed the sex predator notification loopholes, and applied sex offender notification laws to college and university campuses.

In 2002, Sen. Martin authored a constitutional amendment, Proposition 103, bail reform for sexual predators, which passed with more than 80% of the vote.

He has been nationally recognized for his understanding and promotion of technology in government. In 2003, Sen. Martin led a bipartisan coalition to pass Arizona’s first anti-SPAM bill to give computer users rights to fight back against SPAM. He has consistently earned the "Tech Ten Award,” which is given to legislators who understand the importance of business and technology.

Sen. Martin has earned the “Freedom of Information Award” for his leadership on opening government and public records to taxpayers. In 2002, Sen. Martin passed legislation that requires government agencies to “promptly” respond to public records requests and allow for the public to request records by mail rather than requiring requests to be made in person at the government agency.

He plays an active role in the community as a member of Phoenix Rotary 100, and the 100 Club, which provides financial support to families of law enforcement and firefighters who give their lives in the line of duty.

Sen. Martin and his wife serve as Precinct Committeemen in District 6, and are active members of the Young Republicans. Sen. Martin served on the Executive Board of the Maricopa County Republican Party, prior to serving in the Senate.

Sen. Martin serves on a number of Statutory and Study Committees that reflect his areas of interest and responsibility:
