Major General Hugo E. Salazar assumed the duties as The Adjutant General, Arizona National Guard on 16 December 2008 and concurrently serves as the Director of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. This assignment follows two years as the Assistant Adjutant General and full-time director of the Arizona Army National Guard. General Salazar has worked as a full time member of the Arizona National Guard for the past 18 years. General Salazar received his commission from the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1983. His military assignments include two company level commands, Brigade Fire Support Officer, Battalion Executive Officer, Brigade Executive Officer, Operations and Executive Officer of the Arizona Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force, State Mobilization Officer, State Training Officer, Commander 1-180th Field Artillery Battalion, Commander 98th Brigade, Senior Military Advisor with Multi-National Security Transition Command - Iraq, and Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations for the Arizona Army National Guard.
