Kate Brophy McGee is a third generation Arizonan, born into a ranching family and raised in Southern Arizona. She graduated with honors from the University of Arizona in 1977. Kate completed a bank management training program in 1978 and spent the next twelve years in banking, ending her career as a bank vice president and senior commercial loan officer. She left banking when her first child was born.
In 2010, Kate was elected a State Representative for Legislative District 11, covering North Central Phoenix, Arcadia and the Town of Paradise Valley. In 2012, Kate was reelected State Representative for Legislative District 28. The new legislative boundaries largely mirror the old, with the addition of North Phoenix areas. Kate is Chairman of the House Financial Institutions Committee and serves on the House Health Committee. She is the co-chair of the Child Protective Services Oversight Committee and served as a member of the Governors CARE Team (Independent Child Advocate Response Investigation Team), which conducted the inquiry into 6,554 reported cases of neglect and abuse to Child Protective Services closed without investigation. She is a leader in the Governors 2014 initiative to reform Arizonas child welfare system. Kate was recently appointed to the Arizona Board of Child Help USA. She is a member of the Governors Arizona Alzheimers Task Force and of the Arizona Water Protection Fund Commission and is also a member of the Flinn Foundations Bio Sciences Roadmap Steering Committee. Prior to her election to the legislature, Brophy McGee served nearly a decade as a school board member and in numerous elected, appointed and volunteer capacities. She continues her community-based volunteer activities in addition to her legislative duties. She is the mother of three sons. Her husband, Bob McGee, a community banker, is former President and CEO and now Special Advisor to the Board of Southwestern Business Financing Corporation, a certified development company dedicated to creating jobs and growing small business throughout the state. |
