FUNCTION OF THE State Liquor Board:

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 4-112, the Arizona State Liquor Board (Board) is required to grant and deny liquor license applications and to hear appeals and hold hearings on disciplinary decisions made by the Director of the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control. The Board may take evidence, administer oaths or affirmations, issue subpoenas requiring attendance and testimony of witnesses and cause depositions to be taken.

 

STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 4-111, the Board consists of seven Governor-appointed members, subject to Senate confirmation. Members must be residents of Arizona for at least five years prior to their appointment and no more than four members may be from the same political party. Additionally, no more than two members may be appointed from the same county.

 

Five of the members of the Board must not be financially interested directly or indirectly in business licensed to deal with spirituous liquors. Two members must be currently engaged in business in the spirituous liquor industry or have been engaged in the past in business in the spirituous liquor industry, at least one of whom must currently be a retail licensee or employee of retail licensee. One member must be a member of a neighborhood association recognized by a county, city or town. Members are appointed to three year terms.

SALARY OR OTHER COMPENSATION:

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 4-111, members of the Board are entitled to receive compensation at the rate of $50 per day while engaged in the business of the Board.
