FUNCTION OF THE Board of physical therapy:
In
accordance with A.R.S. § 32-2003, the Board is required to regulate the
practice of physical therapy by evaluating the qualifications of applicants for
licensure and certification, providing for national examinations for physical
therapists and physical therapist assistants and issuing licenses, permits, and
certificates to persons who meet the necessary standards. The Board must also
assess and hold physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to
continuing professional competence.
STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS FOR
POSITION:
Pursuant
to A.R.S. § 32-2002, the Board consists of seven members, all of whom must be
residents of the state. Four of the members must be physical therapists who
possess an unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in this state and
have been practicing in this state for at least five years prior to their
appointment. One member must be a physical therapist assistant who has been
performing in the state for at least five years. The remaining two members are
public members who are not affiliated with and do not have a financial interest
in any health care professions, but who have an interest in consumer rights. All
seven members of the Board are appointed by the Governor and serve staggered
four-year terms.

Board
members are eligible for reimbursement of necessary expenses for attending each
Board meeting or for representing the Board in an official Board-approved
activity (A.R.S. § 32-2002).
BUDGET AND FTES:
The Arizona Joint Legislative
Budget Committee estimated a $360,200 operating budget and 3.8 FTEs for FY
2008-2009. These numbers are unchanged in the FY 2009-2010 estimates.
