FUNCTION OF THE Game and fish commission:

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission (Commission) makes rules and regulations for managing, conserving, and protecting wildlife and fisheries resources. The Commission also establishes policy for the management, preservation, and harvest of wildlife, and oversees regulated watercraft and off-highway vehicle operations in the state.  The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) administers the rules as set by the Commission.

 

STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 17-201, the Commission is comprised of five members appointed by the Governor to five-year terms.  Not more than three members can be members of the same political party and all members must be residents of a different county. Members must have knowledge on the subject of wildlife and requirements for its conservation.

SALARY OR OTHER COMPENSATION:

Each member of the Commission receives compensation while attending general or specific meetings of the Commission or while performing official duties for the Commission.  Members are eligible to receive compensation of up to $30 for each day engaged in the service of the Commission.  Compensation is funded through the Game and Fish Fund.

 

BUDGET AND FTES:       

For FY 2008-2009, the Game and Fish Commission is appropriated $35,542,200.  None of those monies are appropriated from the state General Fund.  The Commission employs 274.5 FTEs.
