POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE DIRECTOR: 

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1502, the Director administers the Department, appoints a Deputy Director and may, subject to legislative appropriation, appoint assistant directors.  The Director may also organize the Department in divisions and must employ, determine the conditions of employment and specify duties of administrative, secretarial and clerical employees, as necessary (A.R.S. § 41-1503).  Additionally, the Director may adopt necessary rules to govern its business; contract with other agencies; accept gifts, grants, matching monies or direct payments for the conduct of programs; and contract and incur reasonably necessary obligations (A.R.S. § 41-1504).

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE OR OTHER STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS:

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1502, to be eligible for appointment as Director, a person must have a background and experience in one or more of the following areas: public administration, planning, development, business administration, personnel management, law, or economics.
