POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE
COMMISSION:
Pursuant to A.R.S. §30-108, Commission members are
required to carry out the powers and duties of the Arizona Power Authority
(Authority) which was legislatively created in 1944 to acquire and market
Arizona’s share of hydropower from the Hoover Dam. The Commission must
designate a person or persons to execute all documents and instruments on
behalf of the Authority. Finally, the Commission is required to submit to the
Governor an annual report containing a full and complete account of its
transactions and proceedings for the preceding fiscal year, together with other
facts, suggestions and recommendations deemed of public value.
Today, the Authority has 39 power customers in the
State of Arizona consisting of cities and towns, irrigation and electrical
districts, and the Central Arizona Water Conservation District.
REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE OR OTHER STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS:
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 30-105, the Commission consists
of five members who are appointed by the Governor to six-year terms. All
members must be qualified by administrative and business experience. Members
are prohibited from holding any other salaried public office, being associated
with any public service corporation engaged in generating, distributing or
selling power to the public and having an interest in any business that may be
adversely affected by the operations of the Authority.
SALARY AND OTHER
COMPENSATION:
Members of the Commission are
entitled to receive compensation at the rate of up to $30 per day while engaged
in the business of the Commission.

BUDGET AND INFORMATION:
The
Authority does not receive any General Fund monies but supports its operations from
the sale of power from the Hoover Dam to its customers. According to the JLBC,
the Authority’s FY 2008-2009 estimated operating budget is $31,282,100.
